As a student juggling a full course load and trying to keep up socially, I picked this up during a semester when I felt stretched thin and constantly saying yes to things I did not have time or energy for. Group projects, club meetings, favors for friends, it all piled up fast. I knew I had a people pleasing problem, but I did not really understand where it came from or how to stop without feeling like a bad person.

The first chapter stood out right away because it broke down the roots of people pleasing in a way that felt accurate but not judgmental. Reading it late at night after classes, I recognized patterns from my own life, especially the fear of being seen as difficult. One exercise asked me to write out why I felt responsible for other people’s reactions, and that alone helped me slow down before automatically agreeing to things. It put words to something I had struggled with for years.

Chapter 2 gave me practical tools I could actually use. I tried the suggested script for declining requests and adjusted it to sound like me, then used it when a classmate asked me to take on extra work in a group assignment. I also practiced setting smaller boundaries first, like asking for more notice before plans. After about a week of using these methods, I noticed I was less anxious checking messages because I had a plan instead of panicking.

The real life case studies in Chapter 3 were especially helpful because they showed common mistakes and how to recover from them. Seeing examples that felt realistic made it easier to apply the advice to my own situations. Having this as a digital download meant I could revisit sections between classes or during study breaks when I needed a quick reminder, and it has quietly become part of how I handle things now 👏

As a professional constantly bombarded with work requests, this guide has been an absolute lifesaver. The clear communication methods and boundary-setting strategies in Chapter 2 have empowered me to say no without feeling guilty. I've learned how to assert myself professionally while maintaining respect and understanding from my colleagues. What's more, the real-life case studies in Chapter 3 offer insightful lessons on common mistakes that most of us make when trying to refuse a request - these examples are worth their weight in gold! Lastly, the instant digital download feature ensures immediate access which is great for people like me who want solutions fast.
